About Micki Varney

Micki Varney is an accomplished biologist, educator, civic and community leader. She currently serves as the City Councilor for Salem Ward 8 and previously served as the Chair of the Salem Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Chair of the West Salem Neighborhood Association, Steward for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 503, and President of the Salem American Association of University Women (AAUW).


Micki currently works as a salmon biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and previously worked for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), and as a High School Science Teacher in the St. Maries School District.

When not serving as City Councilor or working as a salmon biologist, Micki enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, connecting with her family and helping out on her daughter’s hazelnut farm. 


Micki holds a BS in Zoology from Washington State University, and a BS in Biology with a teaching certificate in Secondary Science from Central Washington University.
